ROB MURPHY - is a Leadership Coach, Consultant, Mentor and Author. The former NBA executive held the positions of Assistant General Manager of the Detroit Pistons and President & General Manager of the Motor City Cruise, Pistons G-League Affiliate. Prior to ascending to the NBA to assist in restoring the Pistons franchise, Murphy was hired as the head coach of the Eastern Michigan men's basketball program on April 21, 2011. In his first season, he guided the Eagles to their first ever Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Title. Murphy was named 2012 MAC Coach of the Year and National Association of Basketball Coaches District 14 Coach of the Year. In Murphy's first eight seasons he accumulated 144 victories with the Eagles while graduating 94% of his student-athletes. Murphy departed EMU as the 2nd winningest coach in the programs history. Over the past twenty-eight years, Murphy has had a positive impact on the lives of many through his coaching & teaching assignments at Eastern Michigan University, Syracuse University, Kent State University and Crockett & Central high schools in Detroit. The Rob Murphy Foundation has had a positive impact in providing opportunities for many youth & families in under-served areas throughout Michigan.
DEEP chronicles Murphy's remarkable journey, from growing up in toughest neighborhood in Detroit, nearly being killed, to landing an assistant coaching position at Syracuse University under Hall of Fame coach, Jim Boeheim. DEEP also gives incredible insight of a coach and the world of collegiate basketball, providing a behind the scenes view of Syracuse & Eastern Michigan basketball along with the grit & grind it takes to build a successful high school and AAU basketball program.
